How exciting is this time of year? You can look forward to the next 12 months and everything you want to achieve. It’s a great time to think about where you want to go and what you want to do. It’s also a good time to think about what you DON’T want to do, and some bad habits you want to stop. Here are a couple of bad habits to break in 2018:
Did you spend a large portion of last year wishing you had more time? What better reason could there be to break up with your snooze button? The next time your morning alarm goes off, try to get up straight away, rather than hitting snooze. You’ll probably find you get so much more done, and you don’t miss out on quality sleep.
Constantly checking your phone
I have to admit to being really bad at this, haha! I know how hard it is to disconnect yourself from social media, emails and group texts. But learning to pay attention to the people and the places that are in front of you is important. Try to make an effort to put your phone down more often and take note of what’s happening around you in real life.
Doing everything the same way
While it’s natural to enjoy doing things you’re comfortable with, doing the same thing over and over again can be limiting. Not to mention, it can get boring. Doing the same workout every week means you may not be challenging yourself and your body, which means maybe you’re not seeing results from your workouts. An awesome goal for the new year is to try something new! Sign up for a surfing lesson, go for a hike somewhere new or start weight training.
Putting your health last
As you know, I’m a big believer in being kind to everyone. But, I also make sure to take care of my own health too. This year, try to break the habit of putting your health last. Schedule time in your planner for workouts and don’t give up that time easily (where possible). Take time out for yourself if you’re feeling overwhelmed.
Body shaming yourself
Sadly, there is enough negativity in the world about women’s bodies, so don’t add your own thoughts and voice to that. Most of us have insecurities about our bodies, but it’s time to stop worrying about things like cellulite or stretch marks. How you feel on the inside is much more important. Don’t allow your thoughts to tell you how you should look: acknowledge them as unhelpful and let them go!
Some of these bad habits are hard to break, but if you really want to make changes to improve your health, I’m sure you can do it! Think positive and have a great year guys. I wish you all the best for 2018!
